Intro Quadratics (Review)
A Quick look at parabolas

In the following lessons you will be studying Quadratics. You will investigate how to solve quadratic equations algebraically and graphically. In these lessons you will learn to apply quadratic models to vertical projectile motion (something gets thrown straight up) and solve for times and height during the flight of objects.
To the left is a graph of a QUADRATIC. The graph of a QUADRATIC is called a PARABOLA. Answer the questions below from the picture.
QUESTIONS:
1. On what axis are the Roots?
2. Assuming that each that the x-axis and why axis both have a scale that goes by ones (1,2,3...) what are the two x-values for the roots?
3. Remember that a coordinate point is set up (x , y). What point on the coordinate grid is the vertex?
4. The Vertex on a parabola can be called a maximum (highest point) or minimum (lowest point). Is the vertex on the graph a maximum or minimum?
5. Notice the RED LINE. This Axis of symmetry is not part of the actual graph of the quadratic but is a value the goes vertically through the vertex. Is the value of the axis of symmetry the x-value or y-value in the Point from question 3.
6. Notice where the axis of symmetry is drawn in relationship to the Roots. What is the distance from the first root to the second root? What is the distance from both roots to the axis of symmetry? Explain where the axis of symmetry is in relation to the two roots?
7. How can you determine the value of the axis of symmetry if you know the value of both roots? Assume Two Roots are 1 and 5, what is the value of the axis of symmetry?
8. This parabola is concave down. Sketch what you think a concave up parabola would look like.

DAY 2 or (Make up day)
Projectile from y-intercept and Root
You will learn how to graph a parabola given the y-intercept, root and Vertex. Using the information given you will be able to determine the 2nd root that is missing so that you will be able to keep the parabola symmetrical. At this point you will not be making calculations only approximations. Remember to Print the notes page and follow along. After the video is over complete the attached assignment

- _Click on the picture to the left. A larger picture of the assignment should appear for easier viewing.
Answer the questions on a sheet of paper or Print off the picture. - Hint for 4C AND 4D. Rember 5^2 is the same thing as 5 times 5. So in the case of (x+9)^2 (x plus 9 squared) you will mulitply (x+9)(x+9) and box out the two binomials
- COMPLETE ALL OF THE NOTES, VIDEOS AND ASSIGNMENTS. THEN STAPLE THEM AND TURN THEM IN.
